Nestor Settings

The nestor controls how WSi arranges parts on a sheet during nesting — the process of finding the optimal placement for each part to minimise material waste.

Open via Settings → Client → Nestor settings.

Nestor settings affect all sheet nesting operations: Laser Sheet Cutting, Plasma Sheet Cutting, and Waterjet Sheet Cutting.

Sheet Nesting

SettingWhat it does
Nesting distanceMinimum gap in millimetres between adjacent parts on the sheet
Nesting modeHow parts are grouped during nesting — see below
Upper side strategyWhich face of the sheet is considered "up" for asymmetric materials or coatings
Scrap area thresholdMinimum scrap area in mm² before WSi flags it as waste

Nesting Modes

ModeDescription
Actual IndividualEach part is nested individually. Higher quality but uses more sheet.
Actual MixedMultiple parts are mixed on the same sheet to reduce waste.
Virtual IndividualParts are placed as individual but share a common outer boundary.

Tube Nesting

SettingWhat it does
Nesting distanceMinimum gap between tube parts during nesting
Nesting modeHow tube parts are arranged on the stock length

TIP

A smaller nesting distance reduces waste but increases the risk of parts being too close together for cutting. Check your cutting machine's minimum clearance requirements before setting a tight distance.
