Import to Quote

This guide takes you from a CAD file to a finished quote — importing LG-46.step, reviewing the geometry, and producing a calculation document you can send to a customer.

Step 1 — Import the file

Click File → Import Files or press Ctrl+I.

Select LG-46.step from the file dialog and click Open.

WSi detects the file as a STEP (3D geometry) and opens the import dialog.


Step 2 — Configure the part

In the import dialog:

  1. Set the Article name if needed — WSi fills this from the filename
  2. Assign a Sheet material and Thickness from the dropdowns
  3. Set the Multiplicity (number of identical parts)

The dialog shows a green checkmark when all required fields are set.

Click OK. The part appears in the Tree View.


Step 3 — Review the geometry

Select the part in the Tree View to see it in the Graph View.

The Graph View shows all workstep nodes. For a sheet metal part imported from STEP, WSi automatically creates a Sheet node and runs Laser Sheet Cutting on it.

You can see the calculated nesting layout in the 2D Output panel and the processed 3D result in the 3D Output panel.


Step 4 — Review costs

Select any node in the Graph View to see the cost details in the Details panel.

Open the Cost Analysis panel (Window → Cost Analysis) for the project-level breakdown:

  • Material cost — based on sheet consumption and nesting
  • Processing time — from the cutting parameters
  • Total cost per part

Step 5 — Generate the quotation

Open the Project export settings dialog — click its toolbar button, or press Ctrl+Shift+E.

In the dialog, enable:

Close the dialog, then click File → Export → Project export (or press Ctrl+E) to run the export.

WSi generates the calculation document and opens it in Microsoft Word (or your default .docx viewer).
