CAD Import Settings

CAD Import settings control how WSi decides which side of an imported sheet metal part is the upper side. This choice affects how bend directions are interpreted when the part's geometry alone doesn't make the orientation obvious.

Access these settings via Settings → Client → CAD import settings.

What CAD Import Settings Control

SettingWhat it does
Sheet upper sideSets the strategy WSi uses to pick the upper side of a sheet metal part on import

The available strategies are:

StrategyBehaviour
- (default)Use WSi's standard detection, with no preference applied
Prefer upward bendsChoose the upper side so bends point upward
Prefer downward bendsChoose the upper side so bends point downward
Prefer convex surfaceChoose the upper side so the convex (outward-curving) surface faces up
Prefer concave surfaceChoose the upper side so the concave (inward-curving) surface faces up

TIP

If imported sheet metal parts consistently show the wrong bend direction, try a different upper-side strategy here rather than correcting each part by hand after import.

How import settings relate to the bulk import dialog

This setting works alongside the Bulk Import dialog. When you add files to the Bulk Import dialog, WSi applies this strategy to determine sheet orientation for each imported part.

For single-part import of a single file, the same setting applies.
