Single-Part Import

Single-part import processes one file at a time — a STEP, DXF, or GEO file — and adds it to the project as a new article.

Step-by-Step

Choose File → Import Files (or press Ctrl+I) to open the Bulk Import dialog.
Click Import Files in the dialog toolbar and select the file you want to import.
The file appears as a row in the table. WSi classifies it and sets a status icon:
- Green (Ready) — all data is valid. Click OK to add the part.
- Orange (User action required) — the file needs your input. For DXF and GEO files, click Edit 2D Input to open the 2D editor and confirm cutting paths.
- Blue (Info) — WSi detected a material or thickness suggestion that differs from the current setting. Hover over the icon to see the suggestion.
- Red (Error) — something went wrong. Hover for the specific error message.
Configure the part parameters in the table columns:
- Article Name — the name of the imported article. You can type a new name directly, or right-click to choose Set from file or Set from assembly.
- Sheet Material / Tube Material / Purchase Part Material — select the material from the dropdown.
- Sheet Thickness — set the thickness for sheet metal parts.
- Quantity — enter the number of pieces to import.
- Article Denominations — add extra data such as external drawing numbers, revision numbers, or comments.
When the row shows a valid state (green or blue), click OK to confirm.
The part is added to your project tree as a new article.

For DXF and GEO files, always open the 2D editor to confirm cutting paths before proceeding.
You can edit the article later by double-clicking its name in the Tree View or right-clicking and choosing an edit action.
For STEP files, WSi extracts the assembly structure and creates the corresponding graph nodes.
