Creating Parts

You do not always need a CAD file to start a WSi project. WSi can generate common part geometries directly — rectangular sheets, standard profiles, and tubes — so you can get a cost estimate or production plan without importing a full drawing.

Click File → Create to see the available options.

Rectangular sheet metal part

Creates a flat rectangular sheet with configurable dimensions and material.

1. Click File → Create → Create rectangular cut.
2. Enter the width and height in millimetres.
3. Select the sheet material from the list and set the sheet thickness.
4. Enter a name for the part, then click OK — the part is added to your project tree as a new article.

L Profile

Creates an L-shaped sheet metal profile (angle bracket).

1. Click File → Create → Create L profile.
2. Enter the inner radius, flange length X, and flange length Y in millimetres.
3. Set the extrusion depth and the sheet thickness.
4. Select the sheet material and enter a name for the part.
5. Click OK — the L profile is added as a new article.

U Profile

Creates a U-shaped sheet metal profile (channel section).

1. Click File → Create → Create U profile.
2. Enter the inner radius, width, and height in millimetres.
3. Set the extrusion depth and the sheet thickness.
4. Select the sheet material and enter a name for the part.
5. Click OK — the U profile is added as a new article.

Tube

Creates a tube part from a predefined tube specification in your material database.

1. Click File → Create → Create tube.
2. Select the tube from the list — each entry defines the profile, size, and material together.
3. Enter the length in millimetres.
4. Enter a name for the part, then click OK — the tube is added as a new article.

Add purchased part

Adds an externally sourced part — a component that is not manufactured in-house but purchased and included in the assembly.

Click File → Create → Add purchased part. WSi adds the part to your project tree immediately — there is no dialog to fill in first. Set the article name and any other details afterward, as described in the tip below.

Unlike manufactured parts, purchased parts do not have geometry or process nodes — they represent a cost and a sourcing reference.

TIP

All created parts can be edited after creation. Double-click the article name in the Tree View or right-click it and choose an edit action.
