Data Import
WSi works with CAD files. You import a file and WSi extracts the geometry, materials, and manufacturing information needed for costing and planning.
Opening the Import Dialog
There are two ways to start an import:
- Choose File → Import Files (or press Ctrl+I) to open the Bulk Import dialog.
- Drag one or more files from your file explorer and drop them onto the WSi main window. This opens the same dialog with the files pre-loaded.
Supported file types:

Choose Your Import Method

| Bulk Import — import multiple files at once | Adding multiple parts, possibly with spreadsheet data for configuration |
| Creating Parts — generate geometry in-app | Quick shapes (sheets, profiles, tubes) without a CAD file |
Both single-part and bulk import use the same Bulk Import dialog. The dialog adapts to your workflow: for a single file it guides you through material and geometry confirmation; for multiple files it presents a table where you can configure all parts at once.
What Happens Next
After you confirm the import, WSi classifies each file and adds it to your project:
- DXF and GEO files appear with orange status — open the 2D editor to confirm which paths are cutting contours.
- STEP files are classified as 3D input and added directly to the tree.
- WSi files are loaded as complete projects.

TIP
DXF and GEO files require you to open the 2D editor and confirm which paths are the cutting contour. WSi suggests paths automatically, but verify them before proceeding.
