Data Import

WSi works with CAD files. You import a file and WSi extracts the geometry, materials, and manufacturing information needed for costing and planning.

Opening the Import Dialog

There are two ways to start an import:

• Choose File → Import files (or press Ctrl+I) to open a file. If you select more than one file, the Bulk Import dialog opens.
• Drag one or more files from your file explorer and drop them onto the WSi main window. Here too, the Bulk Import dialog opens only for more than one file, with the files pre-loaded.

Supported file types:

Choose Your Import Method

Method	When to use
Single-Part Import — import one file	Adding a single CAD file
Bulk Import — import multiple files at once	Adding multiple parts, possibly with spreadsheet data for configuration
Creating Parts — generate geometry in-app	Quick shapes (sheets, profiles, tubes) without a CAD file

What Happens Next

What happens after you select the files depends on how many you select.

WSi imports a single file directly:

1. DXF and GEO files always open the 2D editor, where you confirm which paths are cutting contours.
2. STEP files are classified as 3D input and added directly to the tree.
3. WSi files are merged into the current project with all their articles.

Several files open the Bulk Import dialog if your licence includes bulk import; otherwise WSi imports each file as it would a single one. In the Bulk Import dialog, DXF and GEO files that need your input appear with orange status. Open the 2D editor for them with Edit 2D input.

TIP

In the 2D editor, you confirm which paths are the cutting contour. WSi suggests paths automatically, but verify them before proceeding.
