Shorten Article Names
Long article names can be hard to work with in lists, exports, and reports. The Shorten Article Names dialog shortens every over-length article name in the project at once, using a single length rule applied consistently across all of them.
Open the Dialog
Do one of the following:
- Click the Shorten article names button in the main toolbar.
- Click File → Run… → Shorten article names.
Rename Articles
The dialog has two settings:
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Article name elision | Where characters are removed from an over-length name — from the start, from the middle, from the end, or not at all |
| Max. length | The maximum number of characters an article name may have after shortening |
WSi applies the chosen setting to every article name in the project that exceeds the maximum length. There is no per-name find-and-replace, no predefined abbreviation list, and no preview of the result before confirming.
Click Apply to rename the over-length articles and close the dialog, or Cancel to leave the names unchanged.
What gets renamed
Only the article display name changes. The underlying article data, geometry, costs, and all work steps are unaffected.
Renamed articles appear with their new names in the Tree View, Graph View, cost analysis, and all exports.
WARNING
Renaming is applied immediately when you click Apply. There is no undo for bulk rename operations.
